Donald Lorenz, 82, of Waukegan, IL, passed away on Friday, February 27, 2009 at Vista Medical Center East in Waukegan. He will be sorely missed by family and friends in northern Illinois and around the country.

In 1943 during WWII Don enlisted in the Navy at the age of 16, but couldn't serve until he turned 17. At 18 he met 16 year old Maxie Conley and married her after a whirlwind courtship. She was the love of his life. About a year later WWII had ended and Don and Maxie settled in Woodstock, Illinois where they had three children, Linda, Maureen and Scott. Don worked at the Woodstock Power Plant for several years. When Commonwealth-Edison purchased it the family moved to the Zion-Waukegan area in 1962. Don worked for Commonwealth-Edison until he retired in 1984.

During his years in the Waukegan area, Don Lorenz and his family helped to found Wesley Church Free Methodist. His greatest joys were his family and serving the Lord. He was a hard working man who gave freely of himself to his church and those in need. He never met a stranger because they were soon friends.

Don Lorenz is survived by Maxie, his loving wife of nearly 64 years, their daughters, Linda Hicks and her husband Ricky of Atlanta, Georgia and Maureen Bowory and her husband John of Minnetonka, Minnesota; their son, Scott Lorenz and his wife Shirley of Beach Park, Illinois; one brother, Dale Lorenz; grand-daughter Serie (Tony) Brown and great-grandchildren, Jacob and Antonia; grandson Matthew (Kristi) Bowory and great-grandchildren, Luke and Ethan; grandson Christopher (April) Hawks and great-grandchildren, Gregory, Austin and Kayden; and grandson Adam (Marina) Bowory.

Services will be held at Wesley Church Free Methodist, 3601 N. Lewis Ave., Waukegan, Illinois. The viewing will be Monday evening March 2nd, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. The funeral will be Tuesday March 3rd at 10:00 a.m. Entombment will follow at Mt. Olivet Memorial Park, Zion, Illinois. The family wishes to make this service a celebration of his life and dedication to the Lord.
