Vern C. Cain Laid At Rest On Friday

Funeral services for Vern C. Cain, lifetime Dundy County resident, were held at the Pleasant Valley church last Friday afternoon with the pastor, the Rev. Clyde Jacobson officiating. The Martin F. Bowles Post 65 of the American Legion was in charge of the military rites. Interment was in the Pleasant Valley cemetery under the direction of the Laughlin's Funeral Home. Vern Clayton Cain, son of Fred and Pearl (Thackery Cain) was born February 27, 1907, in Dundee County, Nebraska, and departed this life at the Veteran's Hospital in Denver, Colo., on November 18, 1961, at the age of 54 years, eight months and nine days.
He spent his boyhood days in Dundy County where he attended grade school. In March of 1928 he was united in marriage to Vita Vittetoe of Giltner, Nebraska. To this union two sons were born, Clyde Eugene and Willard Dale, presently both of Omaha, Nebraska. Vern worked as a laborer throughout his life except for the time spent serving his country during World War II, from September 9, 1942, to December 14, 1943, at which time he was separated from the service because of physical disabilities. Survivors are his sons, Clyde and Willard Cain, brothers, Lawrence and Austin Cain, sister, Mrs. Hazel Stevens of Lakeside, Oregon, John Cain of Reedsport, Oregon, Mrs. Hilda Clark of Mabton, Washington, and Milton Cain and other relatives and friends.
