Gertrude Beck Bailey, the last surviving child of James Jarrell and Ida May Dowell Beck of Peters Mountain in Albemarle County, died on Thursday, February 16, 2012.

She is survived by daughters, Florence Ann Childress and Gayle Miller; and granddaughters, Elizabeth "Beth" Dittmar, and Gwen and Rachel Miller. She is also survived by life long devoted family friends, Frank Robinson and Florence Wilson. Gertrude was married to Earl Warren Bailey from 1943 until his death in 2009. She was the eleventh of thirteen siblings, Hunter, Earnie, Annie Mae, Lottie, Forrest, Archie, Frank, Willie, Maggie, Curt, Susie, and Grace. A special thank you to Dr. Chris Pile and his staff and Dr. Jack Breaux. A graveside service will be held 11 a.m. Sunday, February 19, 2012, at Maplewood Cemetery in Gordonsville, Virginia. Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of the Piedmont, 675 Peter Jefferson Parkway, Suite 300, Charlottesville, VA 22911. Preddy Funeral Home of Gordonsville is in charge of arrangements.
