Pierre Alexandre 'Alex' Besancenez is the son of Pierre Vincent Francois Besancenez and Marie Therese Bigeard. He was born in Lachapelle-sous-Chaux, France. When his father died, his mother abandoned her children and he went to live with Joseph Bardot. He was 7 years old. He immigrated to the United States in 1880 and came to Saint Louis, Missouri where he had relatives. On 01 Dec 1892 he married Mary Ellen Gibbons. They had 4 children: Alexander Peter Besancenez Jr. (19 Nov 1894-30 Mar 1973), Alfred Lorenzo Besancenez (08 Feb 1895-21 Jan 1966), Melvin F Besancenez (17 Aug 1896-08 Jul 1974), and John William Besancenez (22 Mar 1897-15 Oct 1940). He died due to complications from trauma that he sustained years before when he was kick by a mule. It damaged his kidney and in 1913 he died from kidney failure. He was buried 16 March 1913. ((note that his death certificate gives incorrect information about his date and place of birth: 01 Feb 1867, Missouri, USA))
I called Valhalla Cemetery to inquire about his burial and was told the following:
He is buried in a large lot of single graves. There is no marker. It is call the Adult Lot #2 and his grave is number 28. A memorial can still be erected, Valhalla employees would go out with tape measures and string and mark his grave for the memorial. However the stone marker would cost about $900 to purchase.
