Arland C. Witte, 91, of Scribner died Wednesday, Feb. 15, 2012, at Fremont Area Medical Center. Arland was born Feb. 11, 1921, in Cuming County to Adolph and Margaret (Janszen) Witte.

On Aug. 20, 1947, he married Dorothy Kellner. She died in 2004.

Survivors are: sons and their wives, George and Carrie Witte of North Platte, Clinton and Judy Witte of Kearney and Donald and Kelly Witte of Scribner; daughters and their husbands, Mary and Doug Temme of Wayne and Ruth and Sid Ready of Scribner; daughter-in-law and her husband, Nancy and Jim Patton of Elkhorn; grandchildren and spouses, Lori and Jey Henk of Avon, Colo., Amy and Todd Lanham, Tana and Chris VanArsdale, Dustin Witte and partner Daniel Kubert, Kristin Witte, Lisa Temme and Carol Ready, all of Lincoln, Eric and Olivia Witte of Pueblo, Colo., Lucas and Samantha Witte and Sarah and Jason Bomark, all of North Platte, Kevin and Jackie Witte of Kearney, Carl and Dawn Witte of Waverly, Mark and Hilary Witte of Mount Pleasant, S.C., Bryan Witte of Japan, Jennifer and Mike Hansen of Pender, Laura Witte and Steven Ready and fiancée Kayci Allen, all of Omaha, Tina Ord of Fremont, Ann and Conner Rocole of Brookings, S.D., John Temme of Wayne and Glen Ready and Anna Ready, all of Scribner; great-grandchildren, Molly, Allyson and Ben Lanham and Adanya VanArsdale, all of Lincoln, Cecelia and Malcom Witte of Waverly, Blake Witte of Kearney, Jack, Collin and Grant Witte of North Platte, Honor Witte of Mount Pleasant, Logan Hansen of Pender and Addison Rocole of Brookings; brother-in-law and his wife, Boyd and Rena Kellner of Fremont; and special friend, Joan Killingsworth of Scribner.

Arland was the youngest of eight children. He was baptized and confirmed at St. John Lutheran Church, Cuming County Line. He attended rural schools before beginning high school in Uehling. Arland graduated from Scribner High School in 1938.

After high school, he worked on a farm for Adolph Stover until he enlisted in the U.S. Army. Arland served in the Army Signal Corps from 1942 to 1945 and attained the rank of sergeant. After his service, he served the Cuming Township in Cuming County as a road grader operator until he began to farm in 1947 for Ira Uehling east of Uehling.

Arland and Dorothy continued to farm east of Uehling until 1951 when they moved to a farm two miles west of Scribner. Arland then moved to a different location one mile west of Scribner in 1969 where he resided until he moved to Scribner Good Samaritan Center in June 2011.

Arland was a member of United Church of Christ in Scribner, American Legion Post 121 of Scribner, American Shorthorn Association and many other farm-related organizations. Arland helped to start the Silver Pebble 4-H club and had been a 4-H leader. He also served for many years on the District 24 School Board and was a member of the Dodge County FSA Board.

Arland was a faithful attendee of the 227th AAA Search Light Battalion reunions, which was the unit he served while in the Army, and was a 2010 participant of the Honor Flight that took veterans to Washington, D.C., to see the National World War II Memorial.

In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his son, Howard; daughter-in-law, Cindy Witte; granddaughters, Beth and Erin Ready; two brothers; and five sisters.

Burial was in the Scribner Cemetery, Scribner, NE.
