Leonard Curtis Lee, manager of Franklin's Store at 2455 Chelsea, returned to his home at 2052 Pendleton about 10 last night. He complained of feeling ill in the night but apparently recovered and went to sleep. He died about 4:55 a.m. He was 50.

A capable store manager, he could fill any position in a department store, associates say. He was a skilled sign painter and window trimmer. He like people, and customers like him. He was born in Birmingham, Ala., and was with Franklin's in Memphis before going to Ripley, Tenn. to Guttman's Department Store, where he stayed about nine years. He returned to Memphis two years ago and was with Gerber's a short time before returning to Franklin's as manager. He was a member of Fairlawn Baptist Church and a Mason. He particularly loved children and pets. He was a World War II veteran.

He leaves his wife, Mrs. Eloise Lee' two daughters, Mrs. E.H. Harrell III of Memphis and Mrs. Billy Johnson of Sikeston, Mo.; His mother, Mrs. Sudie Lee of Memphis and two brothers, T.J. Lee of San Antonio and Robert E. Lee of Helena, Ark.; his sister, Mrs. E.H. Roseberry of Birmingham, Ala., and two grandsons. National Funeral Home is in charge

This is my father's gravestone. It was broken completely in half. I tried to "put" it back together on the computer until we can get him a new gravestone, which will be forthcoming.

He died much too soon, just short of his 50th birthday. Sadly, his father died at the early age of 44. He had two brothers also died in their early years. I hardly knew my father's side of the family and I'm enjoying researching them on Ancestry.com and making many exciting discoveries.

I look forward to the day we meet again as we're joined in Heaven!
