Her obituary in the Morganton, NC News-Herald, 29 August 1912:

"Mrs. Sallie Rust, of Bridgewater, Passes Away in her 92nd Year."

"Mrs. Sallie Rust, relict of the late Joseph R. Rust, died at her home at Bridgewater Tuesday morning. Her death was largely due to a fall on the 18th in which she received several broken bones. Her age was nearly 92 years and she lived with her daughter-in-law Mrs. Jennie Rust at the old Rust homestead.
"Mrs. Rust was a McCall before her marriage to Mr. Rust many years ago. Several children have passed to the beyond. Those surviving are Mr. Gus Rust, of Charlotte, Mr. Lee Rust, of Bridgewater, Mrs. P. F. Simmons, of Morganton, and Mesdames Riddle and young(sic) of Yancey county.
"Mrs. Rust was one of the best of women, always trying to do good. She was a consistent, devoted member of the Methodist church from childhood.
"The funeral was held at the home Wednesday afternoon and the interment was at the family burying ground near by. Rev. D. S. Richardson, pastor of the McDowell circuit, conducted the funeral, which was largely attended. Quite a number of relatives and friends from Morganton and vicinity were there."
