Thomas Cannon, son of Daniel and Joany Crain Cannon, was born on May 3, 1757, in Jurby, on the Isle of Man. He migrated to what is now Upstate New York in the late 1700s, where he purchased a fine parcel of land in Cayuga County. Thomas served during the Revolutionary War, from which his wife received a pension. He met and married Abigail Sloat on January 4, 1787, in Montgomery, New York. They had at least six children during their marriage. He died on December 6, 1839, in Venice, New York, having lived a long life of 82 years. He left approximately $1500, which was a virtual fortune, to his family, as well as land in Cayuga County, New York. He is buried near his wife, and among much of his family, in the Cannon Family Cemetery in Venice, New York.
