Obituary in The Times and Democrat, Orangeburg, SC, 6 May 1994: Cope, S.C. - The funeral for Bruce F. Whetstone Sr., 75, of 152 Brandi Lane, Cope, will be held at 4 p.m. Friday at Bethel Baptist Church, with the Rev. Stan Hughes and the Rev. Lewis Stayer officiating. Burial will be in Bamberg County Memorial Gardens. The casket will be placed in the church at 3 p.m. Pallbearers will be Chris Bolton, Wadie Zizzet, Wesley Zizzet, O.W. Whetstone Jr., Warren Brunson and George Brunson. Mr. Whetstone died Wednesday. He was born July 23, 1918, in Orangeburg County, a son of the late Lewis F. Whetstone and Eva Hutto Whetstone. He was a member of Bethel Baptist Church. Survivors include his widow, Mrs. Lillian Garrick Whetstone of Cope; a daughter, Mrs. John W. (Sue) Fort of Cope; two sons, Bruce F. Whetstone Jr. of Norway and Phil Whetstone of Cope; two brothers, Colie Whetstone of Cope and O.W. Whetstone Sr. of Norway; two sisters, Sadie Bonnette of St. Matthews and Eva Lee Greenwood of Ladson; seven grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. Friends may call at the residence of Mr. and Mrs. John W. Fort Sr., 152 Brandi Lane, Cope, and at Thompson Funeral Home of Orangeburg. The family suggests memorials be made to Orangeburg-Calhoun Hospice, P.O. Box 2352, Orangeburg, S.C., 29116, or to Bethel Baptist Church Building Fund, Route 1, Cope, S.C., 29038.
