Son of John M. Miller. At the age of 23, he was enrolled on June 21, 1861, as a Private in Company D, 6th Regiment of West Virginia Cavalry volunteers to serve a term of three years. At the time he enlisted, he was described as 6'2" tall, dark complexion, grey eyes, light hair and was a farmer. He was wounded at the Battle of Bull Run on August 29, 1862 and was in hospital at Georgetown, Va. The Company Muster Roll from Sept. 1 to December 31, 1862, reported him sick in hospital at Grafton, WV. He was captured at Winchester, Va., on April 8, 1864, confined at Richmond Va. April 13, 1864, sent to Andersonville Prison May 31, 1864, was paroled at Savannah, Georgia on November 20, 1864, sent to hospital in Annapolis, Md. Was furloughed on December 19, 1864, for 30 days. Was Discharged on February 15, 1865 at Wheeling, WV. On July 13, 1880, in Tucker County, WV, he married a widow named Elizabeth Loughry Goff. He was 42, she was 34. Andrew died in Pettit, WV, and was buried in the Allender Cemetery.
