Charles Carson Merritt, 44 , died suddenly Saturday night at 8 pm in front of the Central Baptist Church , after attending a wedding which he had been in failing health recently.

He was a general manager of Spear's Drug Store where he worked faithfully for 28 years and was well known and liked here because of his courtesy and willingness to serve. He was a member of the First Baptist Church , a formerly an Elk and the Lion Club.

He was a native of Cairo, Georgia and a son of John Wiley Merritt and the late Mrs. Lula Anne Maxwell Merritt.

Survived by his wife: Mrs. Nelle Aileen Porter Merritt of Waycross

Cecelia Merritt
Mary Nell a student at GSCW in Milledgeville
his brothers:
Leon M. Merritt
William Herman Merritt
John Oma Merritt .. all of Delray Beach, Florida
( his father:) John Wiley Merritt also of Delray Beach, Fla.

Funeral services will be held this afternoon at 5 pm at the First Baptist Church with the Rev. Albert Davis , Rev. D.C. Johns , Rev. Eddie Martin , Rev. W.C. Gaines and Rev. Floyd Geiger .
Mincy Funeral Home is in charge.
