Julia is the daughter of Daniel and Lucinda O'Neil. Her siblings include: Joseph (1831), Josephine (1836), Jerome (1840), Justin (1842) and Julius (1844).

Julia first married New York native Elijah A Benson. Elijah was born about 1826, is the brother of John H Benson, and is last found on the 1870 census living with Julia in Roxand, Eaton, Michigan. On Aug 21, 1878 Julia married her second husband, David Taylor, a widower, in Oneida. Julia and David were life partners for forty-one and half years. Though Julia did not have children of her own, she shared with David in the raising of his children.
