A memorial graveside service will be held at 3 p.m. Friday at Hawthorne Memorial Gardens, with President Mark N. Sorensen of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Rogue River branch, conducting. Hull & Hull Funeral Directors is in charge of arrangements.
She was born Elsie Joan Cowie, June 30, 1937, in Vancouver, Wash. As a child, she had polio. In 1955, she married Wade H. Ford, who died in 1989. While traveling through Grants Pass in 1968, her son became ill and had to be admitted to the hospital. During that time, she and her husband decided to buy a home in Rogue River, where she worked in the Rogue River Thrift Store for 28 years. She also worked for Litton and the Champion Shirt Company. Prior to moving to Rogue River, she lived in Washington, Texas and Arizona.
She enjoyed collecting lady bug items and gardening.
Survivors include a son, Dan Ford of Rogue River; a daughter, Sue Hoffman of Bakersfield, Calif.; three brothers, Gerald Cowie of Cave Junction, David Cowie of Black Canyon City, Ariz., and Steve Cowie of Phoenix; and five grandchildren.
