A graveside funeral service will be held in the West Side District Cemetery for Billy Gearld Sampley, Sr., 77. The pastor of Cuyama Assembly of God, will officiate at the service.
Mr. Sampley was born at home on November 3, 1934 in Grayback, Texas and passed away at San Joaquin Community Hospital in Bakersfield on February 6, 2012.
He was raised in Kadane Corner, Texas and worked in the oilfields in Texas until 1968 when he moved to Taft, CA where he went to work for General Production until he retired. He loved traveling and enjoyed trips to Laughlin and Pismo Beach. He looked forward to his trip to Texas every year. He especially loved to be with his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Edgar Monroe Sampley and Jettie Estelle Sampley; his brothers, Wayne Sampley of Oklahoma and Jack Sampley of Oregon; sister, Mary Clark of Wichita Falls, TX; brothers Charles Sampley of Royce City, TX and Dale Sampley of Iowa Park, TX; sister, Charlene Capehart of Taft; brother, Lehman Sampley of Taft; and granddaughter, Kayron Jones of Maricopa. Mr. Sampley is survived by his brother and his wife, his wife of 58 years, his daughter and her husband, his son, his grandchildren, his great-grandchildren, brothers and sisters-in-law, and many nieces and nephews and great-nieces and great-nephews.
Visitation will be held at the Erickson & Brown Funeral Home.
