Technical Sergeant Owings was the Engineer aboard U.S. Army Air Corps B-24E Liberator #41-29072. He was killed when the bomber struck Cheyenne Mountain, south of Colorado Springs, Colorado, while on a training flight from Pueblo Army Air Base. Nine other servicemembers also perished.
With the 471st Bomb Group, 806th Bomb Squadron.
