James M. Bruce

James M. Bruce, 72, founder and owner of the J. M. Bruce Foundry Co. at Cedar Grove, died Saturday evening at Sheboygan Memorial Hospital.  A native of Scotland, he was born March 2, 1884, in Larbert(sic) City, Sterlingshire County, a son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Alexander Bruce.  He came to the United States at the age of 21, settling in New York City.

A resident of Sheboygan County for almost 50 years, Mr. Bruce moved to Greenbush in 1907 and lived there until moving to Cedar Grove in 1919.  A graduate of the McClair System of Foundry Practice, he founded the J. M. Bruce Foundry at Cedar Grove.  Two of his three sons were associated with him in the business.  Mr. Bruce was married to Miss Alice Pool in Plymouth on October 20, 1909.  He was an honorary member of the American Foundry Men's Association for 50 years, a member of the First Presbyterian Church at Cedar Grove, and a member and past master of Cedar Grove Lodge No. 133, F & A M.

Survivors are his wife; three sons, Maxwell of Hoppa, Calif., and Glenn and Mark of Cedar Grove; five grandchildren; two brothers, William in Scotland, and Alex of Montreal, Canada, and five sisters, Mary, Grace, Jessie and Isa in Scotland, and Madame Billy Bruce, a concert singer of international repute of South Africa.  One son, Raymond, a daughter, Winnafred, and two sisters and a brother preceded him in death.

Funeral services will be held at the Wittkopp Funeral home in Plymouth.  The Rev. Robert Vander Haart, pastor of the First Presbyterian Church at Cedar Grove and the Rev. Mr. Williams will officiate.

Note: From 1891 Larbert was contained within the county of Stirlingshire and from 1894 until 1930 constituted its own civil parish.  Larbert was located in the Falkirk district of the Central Regional Council area from 1975 to 1996.  Since local government reorganization in 1996, Larbert has been part of the Falkirk council area, which is one of Scotland's 32 local authorities.  For registration purposes, Larbert remains a part of Stirlingshire and is part of the Stirling and Falkirk lieutenancy area.
