Richard C. Benner, 76, Peru, died 10:20 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 9, 2012, at Miller's Merry Manor, Peru. He was born May 26, 1935, the son of Boyd R. Benner and Edna B. (Shafer) Benner. He retired from Fisher Body in Marion and then worked at Walmart in Kokomo. A Korean War veteran, Benner enlisted in the Marine Corps July 15, 1933, and served until July 14, 1957.

He was a member of the American Legion in Kokomo, Moose Lodge, Fraternal Order of Police, Fraternal Order of the Eagles, Veterans of Foreign Wars and Peru Maennerchor.

Surviving are his son, Joe (Gina) Benner; two grandchildren, Taylee Jo and Nicholas J. Benner, Peru; a brother, Lyman Benner, Peru; two sisters, Mildred Catey, Peru, and Shirley Benner, Peru; special friends, Ralph and Anita Cupp; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Lois R. See and Pauline Benner.

There will be no services or visitation. Burial will be in Mount Hope Cemetery, Peru.
