Lula Mae Bernard, 84, passed away Wednesday, March 3, 2004, at Heather Knoll, after a long illness.

Born in Glasgow, Ky., she lived most of her life in Cuyahoga Falls. She attended the University of Western Kentucky, taught school in Eustis, Fla., and moved to the Akron area to work at Goodyear Aircraft and Ohio Bell during World War II. She was married to William L. Bernard Jr. for 55 years. She raised four children before going to work for Cuyahoga Falls General Hospital, where she was a switchboard operator for 15 years. She enjoyed reading, golf, and traveling to Sebring, Fla., each winter.

She leaves her loving and devoted husband, William L. Bernard Jr.; sons, William L. Bernard III and wife, Debra, of Virginia Beach, Va., Robert C. Bernard and wife, Sheila, of Carrollton, Ohio, Timothy N. Bernard and wife, Nancy, of Woodland, Calif.; daughter, Judy R. Bernard of Akron; grandchildren, Brandon and Dustin Bernard of Akron, Luke Nixon of Waterford, Ohio, Brooke Bernard of Virginia Beach, Va., Amy, Melissa, and Patrick Bernard of Woodland, Calif.; sisters, Mildred "Billy" Seaver of Canal Fulton, Roberta Garman and Bessie Sims of Glasgow, Ky.
