MCALISTERVILLE – George F. Meiser, 81, of RR 2 McAlisterville, died at 3:15 p.m. Friday, Feb. 11, 2005, at the Lewistown Hospital.
Born Aug. 4, 1923, in Greenwood Township, Juniata County, he was a son of the late Luke and Effie (Cox) Meiser. He married Ruth E. (Sellers) Meiser June 2, 1945, and she preceded him in death in Nov. 1986. His second wife, Althea L. (Colyer-Baughman) Meiser, whom he married on Sept. 24, 1988, survives.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by: children, Edgar H. Meiser and wife Heidrun, Big Spring, Texas, Harry L. Meiser and wife Melinda, RR 1 Thompsontown, Devera R. Meiser, Carlisle, Stanley R. Meiser and wife Karie, Abilene, Texas; a stepson, Leon F. Baughman and wife Norene, RR 1 Mifflintown; six grandchildren; two stepgrandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and five stepgreat-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Courtni Meiser, and he was the last of his immediate family, having been preceded in death by: three brothers, Dewey Meiser, Paul Meiser, Lewis Meiser; and a sister, Lenora Frymoyer.
In earlier life he worked for the Pa. Railroad, Enola, in addition to farming the family farm, which was his greatest enjoyment. Later he retired in 1985 with more than 28 years of service to the Commonwealth of Pa. State Hospital, Harrisburg. During his retirement he worked at the Ronald C. Sheaffer Funeral Home, McAlisterville.
Along with farming, he enjoyed hunting and visiting with his family and friends.
He was a former member of Faith Lutheran Church, Richfield, and a current member of the Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church, McAlisterville, where he had served on the church council.
His funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday from the Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church, McAlisterville, with his pastor, the Rev. James Park Bricker and Intern Erin Bovendam officiating. Interment will follow in the Hillside Cemetery, McAlisterville.
Viewing will be held 4-9 p.m., with the family present 7-9 p.m. Tuesday at the McAlisterville Chapel of the Brown Funeral Homes, Inc., 16 Westfall St., McAlisterville.
The family requests that memorial contributions may be made to his church: Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church, PO Box 15, McAlisterville, PA 17049.
