Jack R. Griffin, 67, of 505 Great View Road, Neeses, died Tuesday, Oct. 19, 2004, at his residence.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, Oct. 22, at Bethel Baptist Church, Highway 332, Cope, with the Rev. Stan Hughes officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Don Brunson, Johnny Adcox, Brock Strickland, George Brunson, Doc Brunson and Vernon Skinner. Honorary pallbearers will be the men of Bethel Baptist Church.

The casket will be placed in the church one hour before the service.

Mr. Griffin was born Sept. 24, 1937, in New London, Mo. He was the son of Jean Foster Griffin Scobee and the late Jack Griffin. He served in the U.S. Navy. He was a member of Bethel Baptist Church and a member of Masonic Lodge 234 in Summerville. Mr. Griffin was a supervisor with Lifetime Doors in Denmark.

Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Fran Varnes Griffin of Neeses; one sister, Carol Lake of Center, Mo.; two brothers, Butch Griffin of Center, Mo., and Larry Griffin of Marceline, Mo.; mother, Jean Scobee of Hannibal, Mo.; and a number of nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Thompson Funeral Home, Inc. in Orangeburg.

Friends may call at the residence, 505 Great View Road, Neeses, and at the funeral home.

ORANGEBURG, S.C. - Jackie Richard Griffin, of Neeses, S.C., died at 5:45 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 19, 2004, at his home.

Funeral services were at Bethel Baptist Church in Orangeburg. Burial, with Masonic rites, was at Bethel Baptist Church Cemetery.

Visitation was at the Clarence Funeral Home in Orangeburg.
Mr. Griffin was born Sept. 24, 1937, in New London to Howard Jack and Cleta Jean Foster Griffin.

Survivors include his wife, Frances, of the home; his mother and stepfather, Jean and Glenn Scobee of Hannibal; one sister, Carol Lake and family of Center; two brothers, Larry Griffin and family of Marceline and Delbert Butch and family of Center; and three sisters-in-law and two brothers-in-law, all of South Carolina.

He was preceded in death by his father; one sister-in-law, Barbara Griffin; and two brothers-in-law.

Mr. Griffin and his wife were very active in their church. He taught the adult class for many years and was superintendent for six months of the year. He led the choir six months of the year and filled in for his pastor when asked to. He sang and played the violin and mandolin.

Mr. Griffin left home at the age of 16. He moved to St. Louis and worked there until 1956. He joined the Navy in 1956 for four years and took his training in Baltimore, Md. He was sent to South Carolina, where he spent his whole adult life. He met Frances and they were married in 1958. He worked at a factory and his wife worked at an insurance company until they both retired.
