Mary Iva Johnson died at the Converse County Memorial Hospital in Douglas. She was the youngest of nine children born to Peter and Eugenie Cailoz Levermont. As a young girl she moved with her parents from Kansas to the Pine Ridge, S.D. area, then she moved to Bennett County, S.D. to live with her brother on his homestead. It was there that she met Jake Johnson, and they were married June 1, 1913 at St. Francis Mission at Rosebud, S.D. They ranched near Cody, Nebraska until 1944, then they purchased part of the Fiddleback Ranch north of Douglas, Wyoming. She moved to this ranch in June, 1945 and continued to live there until the time of her death. She is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Pearl Eathorne of Douglas and Mrs. Opal L. Jenelle of Aurora, Colo.; 14 grandchildren and 25 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Jake, Sept. 10, 1973; one son, Sam L., Dec. 9, 1973; one daughter, Eldean Thorberg, Apr. 30, 1967; one great-granddaughter; five brothers and three sisters.
