The above, with the exception of the date in the last clause, was written by the deceased on March 16, 1913. He was united in marriage with Susan Schartzer October 4, 1863, who passed to the other shore May 10, 1902. To this union were born six children, three of whom died in infancy and on May 10, 1916, the eldest daughter, Mrs. Lenora Frederick also passed to the beyond.
On November 23, 1904 he was again united in marriage with Mrs. Hattie Riblet of Pique, Ohio.
On the evening of January 16th, 1918, at the age of 75 years, 11 months and 16 days, he peacefully fell asleep, having fought the good fight, kept the faith and has gone to receive his reward.
He leaves to mourn their loss, a faithful companion, a daughter Laura Deck of Fort Wayne, Ind., a son Ralph Deck, and three granddaughters Lois and Frances Deck and Georgia Grim of Bryan, Ohio, and many other relatives and friends.
He was a kind and loving father, an affectionate husband, a friend to those in need, a good neighbor, and a faithful follower of the Saviour whom he dearly loved and served.
Funeral services were held at his late residence January 19, 1918, Rev. Howard, Pastor of the U.B. Church and a close neighbor, officiating, and remarks by Judge Charles A. Bowersox.
