Frederick Emert Robertson was the 6th of 15 children born to Tilman Robertson and wife Sarah Elizabeth Emert in Sevier County, TN. His own name traces back to Revolutionary War patriots on each parents' sides who were among the first settlers in Sevier County, namely William M. Robertson on his father's side*, and Frederick Emert on his mother's side. [*edited to add: there is a difference of opinion as to whether his great-grandfather was Pvt. William M. Robertson (Memorial #18769274)or John B. Robertson]

At age 22, on 28 Jan 1882, Frederick marries a young woman with the same first and middle name as his mother, Sarah Elizabeth Stafford. His bride's nickname is Sallie. The family history is that either his mother's or his wife was Cherokee. No proof has been found, although there is strong anecdotal evidence lending credence to the claim.

Over the next 16 years, the couple will have 8 children: Josie, Maud, John Earnest, Minnie E, William Beacher "Doc", Otha Ray, Munson (dies age 1, the only child who will be buried in Tennessee), and Charley Luther.

Frederick has not been located on the 1880 census. He is listed on the 1891 Tennessee voter registration for the county. Frederick and his father-in-law Jesse Stafford capture a fugitive wanted for murder, in Jesse's barn in 1884, located 3 miles east of Sevierville according to the newspaper account. Frederick appears on the 1900 Sevier County TN census, living with his wife Sallie and seven children, plus Josie's husband Walter L. Sims, on a rented farm.

By 1907 Frederick and wife and all seven living children along with son-in-law Walter Sims have moved to Oklahoma. They appear on the 1907 Indian Territory census and on the 1910 Dent, Pottawatomie County OK census. Frederick is still a farmer, renting land.

Frederick's date of death is per a family Bible in the possession of one of his granddaughters, who as of 2023 is living in California. At the time of his death the family was living near Spencerville, Choctaw County, OK, near the Arkansas border. No marker or death certificate has been found. Frederick's memorial is shown as the cemetery where his widow and son Oatha are later buried.
