John was born in 1803, Belmont Co., Ohio and was son of Moses and Mary (Johnson) Merritt.
He was brother of Mary (Merritt) Herrod. Margaret (Merritt)
Brown, Ephraim Johnson Merritt, Sarah (Merritt) Crawford,
and Catherine (Merritt) Lackey
In 1822, he moved to Noland Creek in Center Twp., Indiana
There he married Rebecca Sellers on 4-21-1825. She was the daughter of Isaac and Nancy (Brandon) Sellers.
John and Rebecca were the parents of Mary (Merritt) Presley, Nancy (Merritt) McConnah/Worth, and Louisa Merrit.
Rebecca died in Wayne Co., Indiana and was buried in Bryan Cemetery, in Wayne Co. Indiana.
John remarried after the death of Rebecca, to
Elizabeth Walters, and moved to Hendricks Co.,
Indiana. He and Elizabeth were the parents of
Rebecca (Merritt) Galbreath, Moses W., Ephraim,
John Wesley, Lucy, Elizabeth (Liddie) and Luculous.
John died 1879 and Elizabeth in 1881, both in
Indiana. From what I remember hearing and seeing
as a child, I firmly believe that they both are
buried on the family farm, northwest of Pittsboro,
and possibly other family members. I wish I knew
for certain.
John and Elizabeth are my g grandparents.
