Luke was the son of William Arthur and Mary Goodman (Goodwin). His father changed his surname name from Goodwin to Goodman after Luke was born. Luke and his father lived in Torrance Co., New Mexico for many years and he met and married Ella Dunn in November 1915 in New Mexico.
