Lura A. Prouty 1924-2012 BENNINGTON Lura A. Prouty, 87, a resident of Vail Road died peacefully Wednesday February 8, 2012 at the Southwestern Vermont Medical Center following a brief illness. Mrs. Prouty was born in Bennington on October 26, 1924, she was the daughter of LeRoy and Nora May (Slade) Oldham Sr. She married Raymond B. Prouty Sr. on June 26, 1942 in Manchester, he died Dec. 17, 2006. In earlier years she had worked at the Vermonter Restaurant, Southwestern Vermont Medical Center and Eagle Square Manufacturing Company. For more than 30 years she had been a caretaker, working right up to three weeks ago. She had bowled for over 40 years starting in the regular league and then the senior league., retiring this past year. An active woman, she loved crocheting, working in her yard, especially her gardens and working around her home. She leaves her children Raymond B. and wife Nancy Prouty, Thomas C. and wife Rita Prouty and Matthew Scott and wife Pamela Prouty, all of Bennington, 16 grandchildren, many great grandchildren, three great great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins. She was predeceased by her son Larry B. Prouty, daughter Lura Arlene Prouty, brothers LeRoy, Kenneth, Nicholas and Robert Oldham, half brother Earl Potter and two great great grandangels. Funeral services will be held on Saturday February 11 at 10am at the Hanson-Walbridge Funeral Home with Reverend Nancy Wright, pastor of the Shaftsbury Methodist Church officiating. Burial will follow in the family lot in Park Lawn Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home on Friday from 5-8pm when the family will be present.
