Lewis Rector Cabell, 89, of McKinney, the uncle of Dallas congressman Earle Cabell and the last surviving child of Gen. W. L. Cabell, died Thursday in Whitewright, Grayson County.

Mr. Cabell, a retired civil engineer, was born on the old Cabell homestead at Ervay and Cadiz. He was educated in the Dallas public schools and at Virginia Military Institute in Lexington, VA.

From 1942 until 1960, he was associated with Cabell Inc. in McKinney, where he lived for 24 years. He retired in 1960.

He was a member of the Episcopal Church in McKinney and was a member of the Island Masonic Lodge in Havana, Cuba. During the early part of the 20th century, he had worked on the storm and sanitary sewer systems in Havana.

Other survivors include a nephew, Gen. C. P. Cabell (Ret.) of Dallas and Washington D. C. and a niece, Mrs. R. P. Lemin of Dallas.

Funeral arrangements were pending late Thursday night with the Turrentine-Jackson Funeral Home in McKinney. Burial will be in Restland Memorial Park in Dallas.
