Dies At Colorado
Funeral services were held for R. L. McElrath, 81, at the Church
of Christ in Colorado City Saturday afternoon at 3 o’clock, with
with Brother Charles Heron officiating.
Robert Lee McElrath was born June 17, 1863 in Hunt County,
near. Greenville, Texas. He departed this life July 13, 1944, at
the home of his daughter Mrs. Hugh Nixon, at Big Spring after
a short illness.
He moved with his parents to Coleman County in 1878. In early
youth he was converted and became a member of the Baptist
Church, later he became a member of the Church of Christ and
remained true to the end. He was married to Miss Nancy Elkins
on June 29, 1893. To this union five daughters and four sons were
born, all of whom survive.
His widow and the following children survive: Mrs. T. C. Wilson, Loraine,
Mrs. R. C. Fishel, Goldendale, Washington, H D McElrath, Comanche,
Mrs Gordon Bottles, Fernley, Nevada, W.A. McElrath, Colorado City,
R. P. McElrath, Fort Worth, Mrs. Hugh Nixon, Big Spring, T. C McElrath,
San Angelo, and Mrs. Claudine Milliken, Colorado City; 21 grandchildren
and 6 great-grandchildren also survive.
All of the children were present for the funeral except two daughters,
Mrs. R. C. Fishel and Mrs Gordon Betties.
Interment was made in the Colorado City Cemetery.
