Louie Ross Benge was the son of Robert Lowrey Benge & Rebecca Elizabeth Reser; he had the following siblings: Arlie, Elnora, Addie, & Mary Magnolia Benge.

He married Jacqueline Starr on May 18, 1913, in Muskogee, OK; she was born May 28, 1894, Cherokee Nation, IT, to John Ezekial "Jack" Starr and Elizabeth Ballard. and died July 10, 1979 in Tulsa Co., OK. They had 2 children: Louie Starr Benge b. Mar 16, 1914; and Oleta Elizabeth Benge b. July 18, 1920, who married J. W. Kite, Jr. born in AL.

He is listed on the Dawes Roll: card# 1828, roll# 23086; Miller Roll: Ft. Gibson, OK, ap# 7903, roll# 4883; Blood: 1/4 Cherokee.

He served in WW I and enlisted Sept. 22, 1917 at Fort Gibson, OK, and was discharged Aug 22, 1919. He was a private in Co. E, 142nd Infantry, 36th Division stationed at Fort Leavenworth, KS, and Camp Bowie, TX. He also served in WW II and was in the Mariana Islands and the Marshall Islands.

He worked for the OK State Highway Depart. and then for the VA at the VA Hospital in Muskogee, OK, transferring to the New VA Hospital in Fayetteville, AR, in 1934. He died from pneumonia.
