PAW PAW, W.Va. — Mary Maxcine Gonser Rockwell, 76, of Paw Paw, passed away on Sunday, Feb. 5, 2012 at the Winchester Medical Center, Winchester, Va.

She was born March 13, 1935 in San Diego, Calif., and was the daughter of the late Willard Gonser and Harriet Kinghorn Gonser.

Maxcine attended school in San Diego and began a long career with the Navy Resale System following her high school graduation in 1954. She started her career as a cashier at the Navy Exchange at Naval Air Station, Coronado, Calif., and assumed increasing positions of responsibility through the years. She retired in 1990 as the Human Resources Manager.

Upon moving to Paw Paw in 1991, Mrs. Rockwell became an active member of the community. She was a proud and dedicated member of the Harley Bohrer American Legion Post 128 Auxiliary and the Paw Paw Church of Christ. In addition, she volunteered with the local school system and participated in other community projects.

She enjoyed traveling, entertaining friends and various equine related pursuits. She especially looked forward to each November when she and her husband hosted a week-long hunting fest at their home.

On March 16, 1974, she married the late Dailey Gene Rockwell of Paw Paw in Coronado, Calif.

Mrs. Rockwell is survived by many family and extended family members near and far, from West Virginia to Maryland to Florida to California to overseas and everywhere in between.

In addition to her husband, Dailey Gene Rockwell, she is preceded in death by her brother, William Gonser.

The family will receive friends at the Kimble Funeral Home in Paw Paw from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 10, 2012.

A celebration of her life will be held at noon on Saturday, Feb. 11, 2012 at the Paw Paw Church of Christ with Evangelist Richard J. White officiating.

Interment will follow at the Woodrow Cemetery.

A reception will be held following the service at the American Legion in Paw Paw.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Paw Paw Church of Christ Youth Group, Paw Paw, WV 25434 or Children's Miracle Network, West Virginia University Children's Hospital, P. O. Box 8227, Morgantown, WV 26506.
