The Frankfort Morning Times, Frankfort, Indiana,
Tuesday, July 24, 1928:

The death of E. L. Darby, Sunday night at 11 o'clock at his home in Colfax, removes from that community one of the most widely known and highly respected citizens of Colfax and vicinity. He had been in the hardware business there for 37 years and he was 62 years old at the time of his death.

He and his entire family are prominent members of the M. E. church at Colfax. He was a member of the Masonic and I.O.O.F. lodges there. Ed Darby took great interest in everything of an uplifting character and always stood strong for the church and its work.

Besides Mrs. Darby, he leaves five children to mourn his loss. They are Miss Hawthorn Darby, a doctor in the Mary Johnson hospital located at Manila, Philippine Islands; Miss Elizabeth Darby, a teacher in the Greencastle public schools, and Edward and Jeanette Darby at home, and Mrs. Laura Gray of Chicago.

Mr. Darby had been a patient sufferer for many years with a complication of diseases but was never of a complaining disposition about anything. He died as he had lived with full faith in all things divine. He left a record of which any one can be proud.

Funeral services will be held Thursday at Colfax. Burial in Plain View cemetery near Colfax.
