Mr. Eakin had gone out to the lawn of his home, 311 State Street, Grove City, to watch workmen removing a tree from his property. Unobserved by the workers, he slumped to the ground.

He had been president of the bank since 1941, succeeding the late Dr. A.M. Allen. He joined the board of directors of the bank Jan. 14, 1913. On Jan. 15, 1935, he was named vice president.
He was formerly the president of the Grove City Board of Education and was active in the United Presbyterian Church, where he had been named Elder Emeritis. He was also affiliated with the Men's Bible Class.
Mr. Eakin was born in Venango County on Jan. 4, 1880, the son of David and Margaret Matthews Eakin.
