Phyllis Idell Frey passed away suddenly at her hoe on Tuesday, November 18, 1997. Born in Covelo on February 8, 1916, she lived in the area all her life, and raised her family here. She was employed as a cook for many years by the California State Division of Forestry. Phyllis was also a charter member of the Covelo Riding Club, and a fifty year member of Augusta Chapter No 80 Order of the Eastern Star. She enjoyed spending time in the hills, on her horse tending her cattle.
She is survived by her husband, Walter John Frey of Covelo; two daughters, Sandra Spence of Covelo and Kay Schultz of San Jose;her son and daughter in law Ray and Sandy Williamson of Covelo; stepson Bill Frey of Windsor; and step daughters Mary Ann Buttz of Redwood Valley and Sharon Henderson of Healdsburg.
Services were held at 1PM on Saturday, November 22, 1997 at the Covelo Presbyterian Church. Memorial contributions may be made in her name to the Covelo Fire and Ambulance Department.
