Mrs Mary Gower Crosswell, widow of the late William J Crosswell and member of one of Greenville's prominent families, died at the home of her daughter, Mrs Edward Croft, in Aiken, Monday night, following several months illness. She was 76 years old.
Mrs Crosswell was born and reared in Greenville, a daughter of the late Thomas C and Jane J Williams Gower, and was widely connected here.
In 1890, the family moved to Wilmington, NC where they lived during the lifetime of Mr Crosswell, but after the death of her husband, Mrs Crosswell returned to Greenville, to make a home for her daughter, the late Miss Sarah Crosswell, who was for a number of years Superintendent of the Woodside Schools.
For the past few years, Mrs Crosswell had lived with Mrs Croft in Aiken. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of this city, and as a little child, was baptized at the dedicatory services of the old church, in 1855.
Survived by: daughter, Mrs Croft and sons: Gower Crosswell, William J Crosswell, Harry M Crosswell and J Earle Crosswell - all of Atlanta Georgia and H Markley Crosswell of Houston, Texas.
