Family lore says Robert Forbes MacAndrew settled in Stillwater, Minnesota in 1869. In the 1895 Minnesota state census he claims he has been in America for 23 years. This means he and his first wife, Christine (Kirstin) must have immigrated in 1872 just prior to Jessie being born in September 1872. We find that Robert McAndrew age 26, Christina, age 25 and Ann, age 12 months, departed Liverpool, England as passengers in steerage aboard the ship "Cuba" arriving in New York City, 29 May 1872.

A letter from "Ruby" Pollack states, after Christine died of pneumonia Robert decided he had best marry again. He had a four year old, Jessie, at home and another daughter, Annie, who was later put up for adoption. He started writing his sister Margaret's old pal in Scotland, Agnes Watson. They had all known each other and were good friends. Agnes was still in Scotland and unmarried. After almost two years, she came to this country in July 1878. They wed, July 26, 1878 and had Robina, April 22, 1880.
