Mr. Austin moved to Salina in 1941. He was a driver for Sante Fe Trail for 18 years and was a former Salina police officer. He owned and operated Austin Transfer and Storage from 1956 to 1980.
He was a member of the Church of the Cross Methodist Church, a life member of Boy Scouts of America, life member of Heart of America Lions Club and an honorary member of the Kansas Sheriff's Association.
Survivors included his wife, Sylvia Irene; two sons, Ronald and Larry; four daughters, Bunny Austin, Elaine Austin, Linda Mettner and Susan Barry; a brother, Lindsey; and five grandchildren.
