Morris Hollowell Collins, 59, of Athens, died Wednesday, January 25, 2012, after a nearly six-year fight against pancreatic and liver cancer.

Born April 30, 1952, in Athens, Morry was a son of the late Morris W.H. Collins, Jr., and Maysie Lyons Collins, of Athens. He graduated from Athens High School in 1970, where he was President of the Senior Class and a halfback on the 1969 AAA state co-championship football team. Morry graduated with honors from Harvard University in 1974, where he lettered on the Varsity football team, and earned an MBA from the University of Virginia in 1977. He worked in accounting positions in Charleston, S.C. and Elberton, Ga., before returning to Athens in 1987.

He had a lifelong love for and connection with the University of Georgia and Athens, commencing with attendance at the McPhaul Center nursery school, continuing with years of loyal attendance at Sanford Stadium and countless other Georgia sporting events, and culminating with almost two decades of work as an accountant for the University of Georgia Athletic Association. He also treasured memories of his summer travels with Coburn Kelly and the Athens Boys Y Camp.

Morry was a strong and steady anchor with a calm voice at all times-dependable, caring, and giving to his family members and friends. He loved swimming in the ocean with his family at Pawleys Island and Folly Beach, S.C. He also enjoyed reading and could usually be found progressing through several novels at once. Morry always encouraged friends and family to pursue their dreams and provided support along the way. His kind heart will be missed by the many people whose lives he touched.

Morry is survived by a sister, Susan Collins Geolot, her husband, Alan, and their children, Drew and May, of Bethesda, Md.; his brother, John Gaus Collins, of Columbia, S.C.; and a sister, Margaret Collins Totty, and her children, Kenna and Jameson, of Bogart.
A graveside service, officiated by Bishop Mark Haverland, was held at 2 p.m. on Monday, January 30, 2012, at Oconee Hil Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Cancer Foundation of Northeast Georgia, P.O. Box 49309; Athens, GA 30604-9309, or to a charity of one's choice .
