December 19, 1909
In speaking of the death of an old gentleman who, twenty years ago, was a prominent citizen of Montgomery, in this county, but who had been living in Paducah for the past fifteen years, the News-Democrat says:
Mr. John W. Wootan died last Wednesday night just before 12 o'clock, after a lingering illness, aged 72 years. He was a well known wagon maker and a worthy man. He left two sons, Messrs. S. T. and J. T. Wootan. He was a member of the Baptist church and the summons found him ready to answer.
Mr. Wootan was a native of Tennessee, where he was born December 27, 1837, and was consequently close to his anniversary. Though much of his life was passed in his native state, he had been a resident of Paducah some time.
Mr. Wootan died at the home of his son, Mr. S. T. Wootan, 543 North Tenth Street.
