Johnnie Brewer, son of John F. and Mabel Pearl Poling Brewer, was born Nov. 7, 1919 near Douds and died Sunday, Nov. 24, 1985 at his home in Keosauqua at the age of 66.
On Dec. 23, 1939 he married Rachel Eichelberger at Fort Madison. They lived in Mt. Sterling and Keosauqua. Mr. Brewer was employed many years by the Van Buren County Highway Department, working as a drag line operator and mechanic. Following retirement, he and his wife operated their own repair shop, refinishing and repairing furniture as well as working on lawn mowers and other machines. He also plowed gardens, pushed snow, and was at his best when being of service to his fellow man in whatever capacity he could.
Surviving are his wife, two sons, Charles and his wife, Melody, of Mt. Sterling and Jim of Fairfield and a daughter, Ellen Kreiss and her husband, Arlo, of Keosauqua. Also surviving are two grandchildren, Richard of Keosauqua and Teresa Phililps and her husband Mike of Keosauqua, a great grandson, Derek Philips, two sisters, Mae Brewer and Nora Zollars of Keosauqua, other relatives and friends. His parents and a brother preceded him in death.
Funeral servies were held Tuesday, Nov. 26, 1985 at 10:30 a.m. at Pedrick Funeral Home, Keosauqua, with Rev. Charles Butler officiating. Interment was in Harness Cemetery, Mt. Sterling. A memorial was established, and gifts may be left at the funeral home.
