John Henry Reid was born to William M. Reid and Martha Ramsey on April 22, 1836 around Cedarville, Greene County, Ohio. He married Hannah Cooper on Sept. 4, 1856 at Cedarville, Ohio. They had three daughters, Mary Sabina (Reid) Blair, Nancy Ella (Reid) Harbison, and Martha (Mattie) Jeanette (Reid) Shepherd. He was a soldier in the Civil War (Co. C, 60th O.V.I.) when he died of fever at City Point Hospital, City Point, VA on June 24, 1864. He was buried at Massie's Creek Cemetery near Cedarville, Ohio.
