Harold Richard Green, 86, passed away on February 2, 2012 at Mercy Medical Center in Des Moines. Funeral Services will be 10 a.m. Monday at McLaren's Chapel with burial at Resthaven Cemetery.

Harold was born July 21, 1925 in Chariton, Iowa, the son of Clarence and Georgia Green. He spent his childhood in Osceola, Iowa working on the farm. At the age of 17 he entered the U.S. Army during WW II. He served in the 7th Armored Division known as "Lucky Seventh", 48th Armored Infantry Battalion C-Company in France, Holland and Germany and received a Purple Heart when wounded in combat. Harold returned to America on the hospital ship The Queen Mary.

Harold married Mary Margaret Green and had three sons. He was the founder of Green's Appliance Company in 1958. Harold was widowed and married Virginia Brooks of Boone, Iowa. He later retired and lived in Arizona. Harold enjoyed spending time on his boat at Lake Rathbun and his houseboat on the Mississippi River. He made many friends in his life; known for his honesty, great business ethics, his sense of humor and firm handshake and will be remembered for many years to come.

Harold is survived by his three sons, William Harold Green of Texas, Thomas Richard Green (Jan) of Indianola, Iowa and Charles Craig Green (Bobe) of Springfield, Missouri; 9 grandchildren; several great-grandchildren and two sisters, Jenny (Jim) Perry of Des Moines, Iowa and Betty (Bill) Kelleher of Conroe, Texas. He was preceded in death by his first wife Mary Margaret Green and his second wife, Virginia Brooks Green.

Visitation will be from 1 to 3 p.m. Sunday at McLaren's Chapel. Memorial contributions may be directed to the family.

The family wishes to extend our thanks and heartfelt gratitude for the outstanding care and compassion given to our dad during his stay at the Veteran's Hospital in Des Moines.
