Mrs. Gertrude M. Smith, widow of Benjamin F. Smith, died at her home in Cavetown Sunday evening at 5:30 after an illness of three years, aged 80 years. (29 Feb. 1948)
Thp daughter of the late John and Mathilda Kline Hessong, she was a member of the Christ's Evangelical and Reformed Church, Cavetown.
Surviving are sons, Harry F.. Paul H.. Fred and Gilbert; daughters, Mrs, Charles H. Slick. Mrs. John B. Harris, and Mrs. Howard French; brother. James E. Hessong; sisters, Mrs. Sarah Clopper and Mrs. Lou Wolfe, 18 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren.
The body may be viewed at the Hoover funeral home in Smithsburg from 7 to 9 p. m. Monday. Funeral services will be held Tuesday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock, the Rev. J. O'Doll Zechman officiating, interment in Cavetown cemetery.
