Obituary of Mrs. Mildred Giles Conley
Mildred Giles Conley, daughter of Vaden Giles and Nancy Harper Giles, was born January 7, 1854, and died Aug 1, 1933, having attained the age of 79 years, 6 months, and 24 days old.
Her old parental home was a few miles east of Hawk Point on Coon Creek, where she grew up to young womanhood. On December 22, 1870, she was united in marriage to William Conley by the Rev. Holcomb. To this union, eight children were born, five of whom have gone on with the husband to the home beyond the grave. Three are living, two sons, Ples and Charley Conley, and one daughter, Mrs. Albert Schaper, to morn the loss of a sainted mother. She reared not only her eight children but also a niece who was left an orphan when only a few weeks old and grew up as one of her children. She joined the Hawk Point Church some fifty years ago and lived a most consistent Christian life. She was known for her kind hospitality and for the love she had for her husband, her children, her friends, and her relatives. Her husband died some few years ago, and since this time, she has made her home with the three children and she was always patient, happy, and appreciative of all the kindness she received while in their homes.
Her funeral was conducted at the Hawk Point Church by the Rev. O. A. Gordon, a cousin of hers. The large attendance showed the high esteem in which this good woman was held. After the funeral, her remains were laid to rest in the hawk Point Cemetery by the side of her husband. May we all be as well prepared to go when the summons comes as was Cousin Millie. -- C.A.H
