HARVEY PROVENCE, 89, b. Jan. 19, 1878, in Wamego, Kansas, d. May 17, 1967 in Corning Memorial Hospital.
He came to Glenn County by covered wagon while still an infant. His parents, Mr. and Mrs. Nathan Provence, settled in Elk Creek, where his father operated a saw mill for many years.
Harvey Provence was a member of the 8th Regiment, California Volunteers, during the Spanish-American War. He operated a cattle ranch at Elk Creek for many years before moving to Corning in 1947. The last year of his life was spent in a rest home in Paradise.
His wife, Georgia, preceded him in death in 1957. Survivors are a son, Austen E.; two daughters, Mrs. Lola M. Sutfin and Mrs. Evelyn Meuser, all of Corning; two sisters, Mrs. Etta Dixon, Elk Creek, and Mrs. Fern Wooldridge, Santa Rosa; a brother, Oscar, of Glenn, nine grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.
Graveside services were held at the family plot in the Elk Creek Cemetery under the direction of Hall Brothers Mortuary in Corning. - Transcribed by M.
