Karen Ann Pippins, daughter of Kyle and Alta Gordon, who preceded her in death, was born on March 31, 1957 in Nevada, Missouri and died on November 19, 2011 at the Saint Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau, Missouri at the age of 54.

Mrs. Pippins was a teacher in the Dexter Public School System for 30 years and had just retired in June. She was a member of the First Christian Church Disciples of Christ in Dexter, Women of Faith Sunday School Class, a member of the Stoddard County Retired Teachers Association, Beta Sigma Phi Sorority, Alpha Delta Kappa Sorority, Stoddard County Relay for Life, Missouri State Teachers Association, and was the first recipient of the Dexter Chamber of Commerce 2009 Educator of the Year. She was a resident of Dexter.

On September 4, 1982 she was united in marriage to Bill Pippins Jr. in Nevada, Missouri. Mr. Pippins survives of their home in Dexter.

Besides her husband she is survived by one son, Matthew G. Pippins of Dexter; by one sister , Kelly Wrenn of Stockton, Missouri; by one sister-in-law, Nancy Rogers of Warrensburg, Missouri and by two nieces, Megan Gray of Kansas City, Missouri and Amanda Corbett of Warrensburg, Missouri.

Karen was a lover of life. She cherished each day she had in her community during the past 13 years of battling cancer. She was there for those who were battling breast cancer as a councilor and mentor. She encircled herself with friends because they were her inspiration to carry on during this battle with the terrible disease. She will always be remembered for her "win, win" attitude.

Friends may call at the Rainey-Mathis Funeral Home in Dexter on Sunday, November 20, 2011 from 4:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. Funeral services will be conducted on Monday, November 21, 2011 at 10:00 A.M. in the Rainey-Mathis Funeral Chapel in Dexter with Dr. Larry Colvin and Rev. Phil Warren officiating. Interment will follow in the Chalk Bluff Cemetery.

The family has requested that memorials be made to one of the following: 18 Fore Life, c/o Scott Kruse 705 Laurie Circle, Dexter, Missouri 63841; First Christian Church Memorial Fund, 224 East Stoddard Street, Dexter, Missouri 63841; Stoddard County Relay for Life; or The Karen Pippins Scholarship at Dexter R-11 Public School, 1031 Brown Pilot Road, Dexter, MO 63841.
