WEST SUFFIELD, CT -Donald Irvine Oppenheimer, of Ratley Road, West Suffield, died Monday, January 30th in the home where he was born, surrounded by his loving family. He was born on December 16th, 1928 in West Suffield and was a life-long resident. Donald was the son of the late Harry L. and Angie (Phelon) Oppenheimer. Donald served with the U. S. Army during the Korean War, was a member of the West Suffield Grange and a member of the Farm Bureau. Donald drove tractor trailers for over 35 years and was very proud of his spotless driving record. When not on the road, Donald ran the family farm and enjoyed raising horses and working on his John Deere tractors. Don is survived by his wife of 48 years, Martha (Bickel) Oppenheimer, his daughter Donna Rolland and her husband Matthew and two cherished grandchildren, Melissa and Matthew of Feeding Hills, MA. He also leaves sisters-in-law Grace Oppenheimer and Dee Hackett as well many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brothers; Alvin, Kenneth, Robert and twin brother Edward and sisters; Alice Larson, Helen Hathaway, Ruth Waterman and Ruth's husband Richard Waterman. Funeral services will be held Saturday, February 4, 2012 at 12:00 p.m. at The Heritage Funeral Home, 1240 Mountain Road, West Suffield. Friends may call at the funeral home from 10:00 a.m. to noon prior to the funeral service. A burial service will be held in the spring at the West Suffield Cemetery with military honors.
