Mrs. Anderson was born in St. Matthews, SC, to the late Hampton Lafayette and Beatrice Spigener Herlong. She graduated Valedictorian of her class at St Matthews High School. She then went to Winthrop College where she won awards in Math and Physics.
Her teaching career began in Berkley County at Huger where she taught in a two teacher school. She also taught in Smoaks in Colleton County, Lees in Bamburg County before taking two years off to move to Columbia where she went back to school.
In 1930 she moved to Darlington County to teach at the Lake Swamp School in Timmonsville. "Miss Cille" was known for her keen intelligence, strength and toughness as well as compassion for helping others in the community. She spent many hours helping others and for that was known as an advocate for the rights of the less fortunate and disadvantaged throughout her community. Her home was always open to help all. She instilled in everyone the need for an education and the continuation of education throughout life. She was a member of Pine Grove United Methodist Church where she taught Sunday School for 70 plus years. Later the class was named in her honor.
She was married to the late Earl Charles Anderson. In 1959 she and her husband were awarded the Progressive Farmer Master Farm Family Award.
Survivors are a son, B.W. "Bunny" Anderson and his wife Frances, Darlington; a daughter, Linda Bruton and her husband Jeff, Hendersonville, NC; grandchildren, Dana (Cave) Gaines, Nancy (Kenny) Klug, Patricia (Steve) Norris and 6 great grandchildren; and a sister, Arrie Ruth Tisdale, W. Columbia, SC.
She is preceded in death by two sisters, Vivian Sowell, Margaret Checinski and one brother Marion Herlong.
