Richard Holmes Schoonover was the twelfth child of fifteen. He was only 13 yrs old when he entered college. He was Professor of Latin and Greek at Ohio Northern University. He entered Drew Theological Seminary with the expectation of becoming a minister of the gospel. He taught at the Methodist Episcopal Church in Ada. Professor Schoonover was a member of Theta Nu Epsilon fraternity and elected to membership in Phi Beta Kappa in 1907 and was the author of a text book on English Orthography and a hand book of English Grammer. He married Clara May Thompson Dec 26, 1890, of which they had three sons. After his wifes passing he removed to Oregon to live with his sons Merritt and Carl.
