Frances Ann Rothstein, 90, of Salinas, passed away Sunday morning, January 29, 2012, at Windsor Skyline Care Center in Salinas after a brief illness.

Family and friends would like to thank her dedicated caregivers and close friends who stood by her side daily during her last year.

Frances was born June 14, (Flag Day) 1921, in Waverly, Iowa, the daughter of Francis Ambrose and Anna Marie (Rhode) Weires. She was baptized in June of 1921 and later confirmed at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Waverly. She graduated from the Waverly High School in 1939. From October, 1943 until February, 1946, Frances served active duty in the United States Navy, World War II, honorably discharged.

Frances was united in marriage to Herbert Michael Rothstein in 1949. To this union three children were born, Gary, Rodney and Stephen. From 1951, she raised her family in Salinas.

Frances was a faithful member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Salinas. In her spare time she enjoyed knitting, sewing, reading, shopping and playing cards with her close friends, but most of all she loved spending time with her family especially watching her beloved local sports teams, Giants, Forty Niners and Warriors.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Herbert Rothstein; brother, John Weires; and six sisters, Mary Ellen Korn, Catherine Carpenter, Agnes Nygren, Janice Fink, Carol Weires and Josephine Dorman.

Frances is survived by her three children, Gary Rothstein, Rodney (Christie) Rothstein, Stephen (Bonnie) Rothstein, all of Salinas; five grandchildren, Bryan Rothstein, Jaime Singer, Jason Rothstein, Scott Rothstein and Loyd Rothstein; two great-grandchildren, Isaac Singer and Roland Braden; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Visitation will be held Thursday, February 2, 2012, from 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m., at Struve and Laporte Chapel, 41 W. San Luis St. Salinas, CA 93901.

Rosary will be Thursday, February 2, 2012, at 5:00 p.m., at the Struve and Laporte Chapel.

Funeral Mass will be Friday, February 3, 2012, at 1:30 p.m., at Sacred Heart Church, 22 Stone St., Salinas, CA 93901.

Burial will follow at Queen of Heaven Cemetery, 18200 Damian Way, Salinas, CA 93907.
