Mr. Slemp was a native of Lee County, Virginia but had spent most of his adult life in Hawkins County. He was a member of Fudges Chapel United Methodist Church and was a retired employee of Tennessee Eastman.
He was preceded in death by one daughter, Wanda Williams; his parents, Irvin and Mary Crawford Slemp; three brothers, Charlie Slemp, Robert Slemp and Edd Slemp; and one sister, Sue Jenkins.
He is survived by five sons, Larry Slemp and Irwin Slemp, both of Kingsport; Eddie Slemp and Ronnie Slemp, both of Surgoinsville; John Slemp, Fall Branch; one daughter, Faye Slemp, Surgoinsville; mother of his children, Lovely Williams, Mount Carmel; fifteen grandchildren, ten great grandchildren; three brothers, Ralph Slemp and Billy Slemp both of Rosemeade, California; James Slemp, Sacramento, California; five sisters, Nellie Duncan and Jean Rutledge both of Surgoinsville; Mary Bailey, Nashville; Shirley Wallace, Rogersville; Judy Mitchell, Anderson, California; several nieces and nephews.
Calling hours are from 5 to 7 p.m. Sunday at Johnson Funeral Home and anytime at the residence of his sister, Nellie Duncan, 437 Fudges Chapel Road, Surgoinsville and also the home of his son, Ronnie Slemp, Country Lane, Surgoinsville.
Services will be conducted Sunday at 7:00 p.m. in the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Larry Morelock & the Rev. Jack Morelock officiating.
Graveside services will be conducted Monday at 11:00 a.m. at Oak Dale Cemetery.
